Redistricting Commission Informational Meeting

California redraws the lines of our political landscape every 10 years. These State Legislative and Congressional Districts lines can strengthen or diminish our voice in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.!

A 14 member California Citizens Redistricting Commission will draw the lines in 2020 and Californian’s can apply now to become a member. The application deadline is August 9, 2019.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Eta Gamma Omega Chapter invites Sacramento area organizations and residents to attend an information session on how to apply to be a part of the 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission.

This public information session will take place on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 3500 2nd Ave, Sacramento, CA, 95817.

It will feature a guest speaker from the State Auditor’s Office, who will discuss the role of the Commission, how to apply, who is eligible and the selection process, as well as answer questions.

Although, the Commission strives to have a membership that reflects California’s diverse people, geography, party affiliations, and more, the first group selected to serve on the Commission in 2011 was highly criticized for only having one African American member.

This session will encourage African American residents to apply and engage in shaping the future of our state and nation.
